Two tomatoes on a vine
Today’s painting was inspired by some tomatoes I found in my fridge that were just about bad, as well as Richard Diebenkorn’s work. The goal here was to simplify without losing form and also keep the painting fresh. I think I was successful in these areas. Another goal was to capture light with color while avoiding to add copious amounts of white. I love how the tomato on the left appears to glow from within. Also I have been working over top of older paintings and I think it is creating a nice texture. This painting was done on top of an acrylic painting that failed. Sometimes you have to let go of what is underneath to reveal something more beautiful.
